Instructor of Philosophy and Rhetoric/Composition, Full Time

FULL TIME, TENURE TRACK TEACHING POSITION – FALL 2016
PENDING BUDGET APROVAL


1. Qualifications: A Master's degree in Philosphy and a minimum of two years college philosophy teaching experience are required. Experience teaching rhetorically based composition courses within the last two academic years and/or formal training or experience with assessment and evidence-based teaching practices are preferred.

In addition to teaching responsibilities, the full time instructor would work to better align our program with standard requirements across the SUNY system and at other colleges.

2. Essential Functions:
A. Provide classroom instruction to students

B. Define philosophy pedagogy

C. Design discipline-specific curriculum and scaffold to the Learning Framework and other Gen Ed requirements as needed across the College

D. Build an assessment plan for Philosophy

E. Assist with Philosophy adjunct hiring and supervision

F. Teach at least one Composition course within an academic year, and

Participate in writing-across-the-curriculum conversations to reinforce writing-to-learn in content courses
Align philosophy outcomes with writing content faculty
G. Provide academic advisement through student meetings, evaluations and assessment of advisees' academic programs

H. Serve on college committees

I. Maintain office hours and be available to students as needed and as stated in the bargaining agreement

J. Participate in professional growth and development activities

K. Attend commencement and professional workshop days as defined by the college calendar

L. Perform appropriate other duties as requested by the Provost of the College and/or Department Chair
